On June 17th, 2016, the founding conference of “Shanghai Institute of Immunology Immune and Microenvironmental Related Diseases Research Center” was held in Shanghai General Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Chen Guoqiang, Vice Dean Chen Hongzhuan, Director of Shanghai General Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University Wang Xingpeng, Vice Director Xia Shujie, Sun Xiaodong, Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Basic Medicine Chen Hong, Director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology Su Bing, Vice Director Fang Lijuan, Branch Secretary/Deputy Director of Department of Immunology and Microbiology Nie Hong, PI Wang Honglin, Office Director Wang Jiaqi have attended the conference. Wang Xingpeng and Su Bing signed the cooperation protocol of the Center and they launched the Center together with Chen Guoqiang, Chen Hongzhuan, Xia Shujie and Sun Xiaodong. The founding conference was hosted by Sun Xiaodong. The leaders of Dean’s Office of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Department of Personnel, Science and Technology Department, Planning Department, Graduate School, School of Basic Medicine and Shanghai General Hospital and the representatives of SII also attended the founding conference.
At the beginning, as the Director of the Center, Su Bing, Director of SII introduced the founding background and future construct aims of the Center and reviewed the preparations of the conference. He firstly appreciated every department of School of Medicine and of Shanghai General Hospital for their help for the Center. He said that since he held the post of Director of Shanghai Institute of Immunology on July, 2012, with the development and accumulations for several years, SII has already covered the research fields including autoimmunity, tumor immunity, infectious immunity, graft immunity, local immunity, immune regulation, immune development and other basic immunity and has gathered many talents specialized in immunology. With the deepening of the concepts of Systemic Medicine and Translational Medicine, SII always pays much attention to how to explore the new cooperation mode between basic research and clinical research under the critical scientific problems of early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of serious clinical diseases. Shanghai General Hospital has clinical diagnostic and therapeutic advantages on gut immune and inflammatory related diseases, possesses rich sample databases and especially pays much attention to the influence of host microenvironment to human health and diseases. In view of the research fields they all pay attention to and the advantages they all have, both sides are willing to expand cooperation different from cooperation between PIs. The construct aim of the Center is to build a translational research base fusing basic medicine and clinical medicine, to cultivate a research team deeply fusing basic and clinical research and to make breakthroughs on diseases research and clinical diagnostic and therapeutic technologies guided by clinical scientific problems.
In the subsequent speech of Director Wang Xingpeng，he highly praised the long history of SII, the quick developments under the direction of Su Bing and appreciated the great support of School of Medicine to the foundation of the Center. He said that the Center should at first set the main research goal of the basic-clinical experts team, determine the important diseases to be researched, infiltrate immunological research to clinic and lay the foundation of solve people’s health problems and bring benefit to people. The Hospital will offer thorough support and guarantee for the Center and believe that the foundation of “Shanghai Institute of Immunology Immune and Microenvironmental Related Diseases Research Center” will become a kind of cooperative mechanism more creative, more open and more inclusive.
At last, Vice Dean Chen Hongzhuan hopes that this Center could play well the role of guidance and help solve key scientific problems, especially obtain great original outcomes in the research field of some important diseases. Meanwhile, he hopes the center could make some breakthroughs on the system, attract more excellent talents and become the pioneer of creation.
