On the 10th year since the first launch of the Belt & Road Initiatives, the 2023 China Belt & Road International Undergraduate Medical Basic Innovation Experimental Design Forum, undertaken jointly by Chongqing Medical University, Harbin Medical University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, was held successfully on August 19th-21st 2023, in Chongqing. The competition aims at providing a platform for national and international exchange between higher medical institutions and presenting an international stage for undergraduate students to demonstrate their innovative ability and comprehensive quality.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Yu Huarong of Chongqing Medical University, and Prof. Li Ling of Southern Medical University, Prof. Esaulenko Igorj of Voronezh State Medical University, Prof. Deng Shixiong of Chongqing Medical University delivered welcome speeches respectively to 57 teams from 6 countries（including Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, etc.）. The competition was held in sequence orderly, while the Panel between Russian and Chinese Universities was hosted by Prof. Li Ling of Southern Medical University was arranged at the same time, and representatives from different medical schools in the Belt & Road countries exchanged insights on medical education and discussed educational cooperation. On the closing ceremony, Prof. Li Ling gave summary of the forum and announced the winners. Prof. Wang Hao of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine gave closing speech, putting forward expectations for further international communications.
Teachers and students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine actively participated in the preparation of this forum and done a wonderful job, receiving praise from the host of the forum and international guests. Also, participants from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine won the gold prize and “best teamwork” in the competition.
This forum symbolizes tighter connection and further cooperation between the medical schools from the Belt & Road countries, provided a global stage for college medical students to share and communicate their academic talents, and also demonstrated overall quality of the teachers and students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
