The 25th International Conference Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IOMS), which was organized by the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CAOMS), was held in Vancouver, Canada, from June 7th to 11th, 2023. During the council meeting held at the same time, Prof. Yue He, chief of the Department of Oral Maxillofacial & Head and Neck Oncology in our hospital, was elected as thecouncil member of IAOMS. He is also the only council member in China at present.

Founded in 1960, IAOMS is the world's most prestigious society specializing in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The mission of IAOMS is to improve the treatment and safety of healthcare worldwide by advancing research, education, popularization, and care in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Up to now, IAOMS has more than 4,000 individual members in more than 120 countries and regions.

Under the leadership of Academicians Weiliu Qiu and Zhiyuan Zhang, Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Chinese Stomatological Association joined IAOMS in 1999 and hosted the 19th IOMS in Shanghai in 2009. In 2010, our hospital was appointed as IAOMS accredited International Specialist Training Base and International Training Center for Oral Oncology Surgery and Prosthetic Reconstruction. Over the past 10 years, we have trained more than 140 fellows from more than 30 countries and regions. With the rising influence of China in the field of global maxillofacial surgery, China was invited to serve as a council member of IAOMS, with Academician Weiliu Qiu as the first director, Prof. Guofang Shen as the second council director, and Prof. Yue He was invited to serve as the third director.

For this election, Prof. Yue He said that it was not only a full affirmation of his personal clinical and academic achievements but also a high recognition of the influence and status of Chinese oral and maxillofacial surgery in the international arena. In the future, Prof. He will actively promote communication and collaboration between the Chinese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and international ones, also fulfill the mission of IAOMS to promote the development of oral and maxillofacial surgery by advancing cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment, basic and clinical research, as well as education and popularization of science.
