Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Nursing currently has 114 full-time graduate students, with 88 master’s students and 26 doctoral students. Approximately 80% of them got a bachelor’s degree from a “project 985” or “project 211” university. In recent years, the School of Nursing has been dedicated to cultivating high-quality nursing students, through innovating education model, reforming teaching methods, and promoting international exchanges.
The School of Nursing regularly holds academic conferences and research salons to promote the pragmatic and truth-seeking spirit among the students. The School also support international exchanges with prestigious universities and institutions to broaden students’ global horizons. The programs, which last from three months to one year respectively, provide students with opportunities of research collaborations. Every month, there are various activities carried out under the leadership of the CPC and the Communist Youth League for students to train their capacities of learning, thinking, comprehending and practicing. By 2020, 44% of the students had the experience in overseas exchange programs, and 100% of the students had engaged in social service. In recent years, an increasing number of students have involved in national research projects, published high-quality research papers, and obtained patents, contributing to the development of the School.
Over the past five years, 68 graduates of the School joined the medical industry, employers including higher education institutions, tertiary hospitals, public and private medical institutions across China. Approximately 65% of the graduates are working as nurses at the clinical setting. A 100% employment rate has been achieved for five consecutive years. More than 100 alumni received national and municipal honors and awards, including the National Advanced Individual in the Fight against COVID-19, Shanghai Zuoying Nursing Award, Ten Outstanding Youth in Shanghai, and Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
