“Myeloid cell biology and metabolism” laboratory directed by Dr. Svetoslav Chakarov in Shanghai Institute of Immunology (SII) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University school of medicine (SJTU-SM) is seeking for highly motivated candidates for Research Assistant, Research Technician and Postdoc Position.
Obesity, defined as excess fat mass, increases risks for multiple metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and several types of cancer. The obesity epidemic has intensified efforts to understand the mechanisms controlling obesity-induced tissue remodeling. Adipose tissue associated myeloid cells are hypothesized to play central roles in these diseases through their role as inflammatory mediators. In addition to inflammation, myeloid cells perform ‘extra’ tissue-specific functions termed accessory functions. One such putative accessory function is their metabolic activity. However, the role of myeloid metabolism in shaping tissue remodeling during obesity is poorly understood.
The research projects of the lab utilize cutting-edge interdisciplinary research approaches and aim to understand murine and human innate immune cells/stromal cells interactions during obesity and/or metabolic disease. Multiple novel inducible transgenic and gene targeting murine models, genome sequencing analysis, single-cell RNA-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq, Mass Cytometry (CyTOF), “InfinityFlow” pipeline, Imaging Mass Cytometry (IMC), Co-detection by indexing (CODEX) will be involved in the ongoing research projects. Recent work from the lab has been published in journals, such as Science, PNAS, Immunity, Journal of Experimental Medicine. The lab is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and was selected into talent programs such as the NSFC National for Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program, Shanghai High-level Overseas Talent Introduction Program, Oriental Scholars of Shanghai Universities Distinguished Professor, Foreign Experts Program of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and participate in the key project of Ministry of Science Technology "Etiology and epidemic prevention technology system research" as a project backbone.
