Dr. Becher majored in Biology (B.S.) and Biochemistry (M.S.) at the University of Cologne in Germany. In 1995 he received PhD degree from McGill University in Canada for research in the field of neuroimmunology. In 1999 he joined Randy Noelle’s lab at the Dartmouth Medical School in USA as a Post-doc. He was then recruited as Assistant Professor to the University Hospital of Zurich in 2003. In 2008 he became a full professor at the University of Zurich and chair of the Institute of Experimental Immunology, where he continues to study in autoimmunity, tumor immunology and cytokine biology. He was most recently awarded the Robert Bing Price for Neuroscience (2008), the Biogen Dompé MS-Research Price (2008) and the Prof. Max Cloëtta Award (2010) for his outstanding work.
