The "2nd Songjiang Young Scholars Forum 2023" jointly organized by the Songjiang Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the School of Basic Medicine was successfully held on October 11-12, 2023. The forum invited 30 outstanding young scholars from Harvard Medical School, University of Pennsylvania, New York University, Imperial College London, Peking University, Zhejiang University and Capital Medical University to share their latest scientific research achievements.

Gu Jieyan, Vice Governor of Shanghai Songjiang District, Academician Fan Xianqun, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Academician Duan Shumin, Dean of Songjiang Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and Professor Wu Hao, President of the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, addressed the opening ceremony of the forum. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Professor Xu Tianle, Executive Dean of Songjiang Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

Gu Jieyan introduced the long history and vigorous development of Songjiang, and welcomed talents at home and abroad to focus on scientific and technological innovation, start a career and live and work in Songjiang, an important new city in Shanghai. Songjiang Research Institute is a scientific research institution jointly established by the Songjiang District government and the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University. The district government has high hopes for the future development of the Institute and will constantly update and iterate new policies to support innovation and accelerate the transformation of basic research results into real productivity.

Academician Fan Xianqun delivered a speech on behalf of the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, saying that Songjiang is a hot land for scientific and technological development, and the Songjiang Research Institute jointly built by the Songjiang District government and the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University stands on this hot land, focusing on the construction of the G60 Science and Technology Innovation corridor, helping the vigorous development of brain science in China. The School of Medicine now has 16 key disciplines of the Ministry of Education, and the clinical medicine of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine ranks first in the "2021 Soft Science Best Discipline Ranking in China". The number of national nature projects has been ranked first in the national medical colleges for 12 consecutive years, and the comprehensive strength of the discipline ranks the forefront of domestic medical colleges. The College of Medicine firmly implements the main strategy of "strong hospital with talents" and earnestly strengthens the construction of high-level talents. Academician Duan Shumin pointed out that the institute is located in Songjiang, known as the "top of Shanghai", in the early stage of construction, its rapid development is inseparable from the support of the Songjiang District government, Jiaotong University Medical School and Songjiang Hospital. Songjiang Research Institute, as a new research and development institution, hopes to lead and support the development of brain science in the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University and improve the level of medical services in Songjiang District. In the next five years, 50 researchers and 230 permanent personnel will be recruited to form a superior discipline group of brain science, and help Songjiang Hospital complete the defunding work, making it an affiliated hospital of Jiaotong University and an important force to support China's brain program. In the next 10 years, it will build hardware and software to promote the innovation and development of talents, form a culture of training and education of first-class innovative talents, lay the foundation for the construction of a world-class science and technology innovation center, and become a new engine for the economic development of Songjiang District; In the next 15 years, it is our beautiful vision to build Songjiang Hospital into the vanguard of the Medical school system of Jiaotong University, make Songjiang Research Institute stand in the center of the 2.0 version of the Brain Science Development Plan of the Medical School of Jiaotong University, become the main force of brain science in China, become a world-class science and innovation center, and contribute to the construction of an innovative country.

President Wu Hao warmly welcomed all the young scholars attending the conference. He introduced the development history, discipline structure and talent team of the Ninth Institute, and sincerely invited outstanding young scholars at home and abroad who are interested in basic research and clinical transformation research to join the Ninth Institute to help the in-depth integration and development of basic medicine and clinical medicine.

With the theme of "Brain Function and Brain diseases", this sub-forum aims to build an exchange platform for outstanding young scholars in the field of brain science at home and abroad, and promote academic exchanges and cooperation. At the sub-forum, 20 outstanding young scholars made wonderful academic reports, and through the sharing of cutting-edge research results and in-depth discussion of the subject, they stimulated the passion of neuroscience researchers for further exploration and innovation.

On the afternoon of October 12, the second Songjiang Young Scholars Forum came to a successful end. At the closing ceremony, Academician Duan Shumin expressed his sincere thanks to the experts, young scholars and staff who attended the conference. Academician Duan stressed that the Institute provides an exchange platform for outstanding young scholars who intend to join the Songjiang Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and jointly promote the construction of the world-class high-level medical school of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and the construction of the Songjiang Research Institute as China's brain science research and development center.
