2022 International Young Scholar Online Forum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine-Nursing Subforum “Sharing the Knowledge, Enabling the Future” Successfully Held

Hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and organized by the School of Nursing, the Nursing sub-forum “Sharing the Knowledge, Enabling the Future” was held successfully on June 24. The forum aimed to facilitate the development of Nursing by focusing on interdisciplinary crossover and knowledge sharing. Ten high-level young talents were invited to share their latest research discoveries. They were from different disciplines of multiple universities across the globe, such as the United States, Japan, and Australia. More than 300 faculties, researchers, students, and nurses from the School of Nursing and affiliated hospitals actively participated in the event. Domestic and foreign outstanding young scholars gathered online to discuss the research progress in nursing.

Fang Qiong, Vice Dean of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Nursing, delivered an opening speech for the sub-forum. She introduced that since its establishment, the School of Nursing had always been the highland of nursing talents education in China, and made remarkable achievements in the construction of the nursing discipline. With the goal of cultivating excellent and innovative nursing talents with missions in heart, adhering to the education principle of cultivating people with high moral standards, the School of Nursing introduced important new measures in the areas of student training, scientific research, platform construction, integrated development of affiliated hospitals and interdisciplinary cooperation. She said that the School of Nursing provided a series of policies and financial supporting approaches for the development of young talents, including building disciplinary talents echelons, cultivating innovative talents teams, and providing incentives such as the “Jiulong Nursing Talent Award”, etc. Finally, she warmly invited academic scholars from home and abroad to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine together and join the school to continue its brilliance.

The forum was hosted by Hu Yun, Associate Professor of the School of Nursing. Two presentation sessions and one scholar discussion session were conducted. The first presentation session was hosted by Professor Zhu Daqiao and Lecturer Hua Wenzhe. The second one was hosted by Associate Professor Tao Xingjuan and Lecturer Su Ya. The scholar discussion session was liaised and hosted by Assistant Researcher Wang Xiyi, with conference support provided by Wu Jia, Head of International Exchange Affairs of the School of Nursing.

In the academic presentation session, focusing on two main themes - long-term care for chronic health conditions and maternal and child health - 10 young scholars shared the latest research results in multiple areas that could facilitate the nursing knowledge development, such as mobile medical technologies, social science research methods, and basic medical experimental techniques.

In the discussion session, speakers shared their successful experiences in cooperation with research teams, research institutions, patients and caregivers in their scientific research work, providing effective methods for the efficient integration of different cultures, countries, regions, schools and majors in the future.

At the end of the forum, Zhang Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Nursing, summarized the forum and expressed his gratitude to the speakers for their unreserved wisdom. He called on the outstanding young scholars to take this event as a starting point, to maintain their scientific sentiment of cooperation and sharing, and to join hands for a better future.

The forum lasted for nearly 4 hours. Young scholars, teachers and students from the school and affiliated hospitals who attended the forum deeply felt that the content of the forum was diverse, international and advanced, and they looked forward to jointly creating new advantages for the integration of nursing science development at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Nursing!
