Health is the eternal pursuit of mankind, and is the foundation for people to live and work in peace and contentment. With the development of society and economy and the aging of the population, the demand for clinical pharmacy services is increasing. Currently, the R&D and innovation model in the field of biomedicine is undergoing profound changes, and the cycle from basic research to industrialization has been shortened significantly. To further buttress the national strategy of Healthy China, deeply integrate into the development plan of Shanghai's biomedical industry, and accelerate the development of pharmacy disciplines, on March 28th, SJTUSM held the Academic Forum on "Creating the Future Together - Pharmaceuticals for Development" and the inauguration of the College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Biomedical industry is one of the three leading industries in Shanghai. R&D of new drugs and pharmaceutical industry have played an important role in safeguarding people's health, enhancing the independent innovation capability and economic and social development. In the new round of strategic blueprint, SJTUSM integrated basic and clinical pharmacy resources of its affiliated hospitals, and established the College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Prof. Fan Xianqun pointed out in his speech that a first-class medical school must be driven by a dual-track development of medicine and pharmacy. SJTUSM has been dominating China by its clinical medicine and maintained a strong international influence, and its pharmacy also enjoyed a good academic reputation at home and abroad. As Fan said, today marks the establishment of the College of Clinical Pharmacy, aiming to fully integrate the scientific research strength and talent resources of basic pharmacy at SJTUSM and clinical pharmacy at affiliated hospitals. It seeks to link with advantageous disciplines related to pharmacy across the university, strengthen interdisciplinarity, and jointly carry out the discipline development, education, teaching, and talent cultivation in the "big pharmacy" field. The college is dedicated to conducting basic research in pharmacy and transforming scientific and technological achievements, cultivating innovative, research-oriented, service-oriented high-quality clinical pharmacy talents, and promoting the high-quality development of China's biopharmaceutical pharmacy.

Prof. Fan Xianqun put forward three wishes for the newly established College. Firstly, he hoped that the college would strengthen the top-level design, coordinate scientific planning, further optimize and improve the overall development plan, work together to build a first-class "big pharmacy" discipline, and make every effort to push forward the overall strength of the discipline. Secondly, he hoped that the college will support the national development strategy of biomedicine by building high-level platform and training talents, and carry out science innovations by promoting interdisciplinary cross-research in pharmacy, and actively cultivate new growth points in the discipline, and accelerate the output of major results of pharmacy. Thirdly, he hoped that the college will optimize the mode and mechanism of training pharmacy specialists by aiming at the areas of urgent need and shortage in national pharmacy disciplines, cultivate excellent pharmacy innovative talents, and help Shanghai become a highland of biomedical industry with global influence.

Lin Houwen, Dean of the College of Clinical Pharmacy, introduced the development plan and program designs. The college will closely focus on major and key scientific issues, strengthen the integration of interdisciplinary technologies in pharmacy and the layout of original innovation research, carry out strategic, prospective and basic cooperative research, and promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, so as to build a pharmacy innovation research center with basic and clinical integration, a leading pharmacy translation highland, and a platform that can gather and cultivate excellences, and to promote the development of first-class disciplines in pharmacy.

The inauguration was followed by an academic forum on "Creating the Future Together - Pharmaceuticals for Development". Chen Kaishian, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ding Jian, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Li Xiaokun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Wenzhou Medical University, and Yao Wenbing, chairman of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Pharmacy in Higher Education of Ministry of Education of China, delivered presentations on "Frontier of Biomedical Science and Technology Innovation and Development of China", "New Drug Development for Tumor", "Clinical Translational Medicine Research of Growth Factor Drugs", "Clinical Translational Medicine Research of Growth Factor Drugs", and "Development of Clinical Pharmacy and Some New Thoughts", respectively, and talked about the most cutting-edge academic achievements and the latest development trend of pharmacy. The academic forum was hosted by Lin Houwen, Dean of College of Clinical Pharmacy.
