Shanghai Key Laboratory of Pancreatic Diseases was established in December 2005 and passed the expert acceptance in December 2007. It is a municipal key laboratory and a public open technology innovation platform established by the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, relying on the Shanghai First People's Hospital Precision Research Center for Difficult Diseases and the Institute of Pancreatic Diseases of . The laboratory director is Professor Xingpeng Wang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Center.
Shanghai Key Laboratory of Pancreatic Diseases has a building area of 1000 m2. The supporting units have invested more than 20 million yuan in infrastructure construction. Now, there are basic research platforms for molecular biology, cell biology, intestinal microecology, histomorphology, biobank, experimental animals, etc., which can routinely carry out various translational medical research on pancreatic diseases. The main research directions of the laboratory are: (1) Molecular mechanism and clinical transformation of acute pancreatitis; (2) Research on the molecular regulation mechanism of tumor metabolism and proliferation after radiotherapy and chemotherapy in pancreatic cancer; (3) Study on the function and molecular mechanism of intestinal microecology in pancreatic diseases.
Shanghai Key Laboratory of Pancreatic Diseases now has more than 40 fixed researchers in various research fields, including one winner of the "Thousand Talents Program" of the Organization Department of the Central Committee, one winner of the national "Thousand Talents Program" youth talent program, one winner of the National Natural Science Foundation for Outstanding Youth Science Fund, two national talents of the New Century Hundred Thousand Talents Project, two leading medical talents in Shanghai, and two outstanding discipline leaders in Shanghai. In the past five years, the key laboratories have undertaken more than 100 scientific research fund projects at all levels and all kinds, with research funds of more than 30 million yuan. Among them, there are 30 national level funds, including 1 excellent youth science fund project of NSFC, 19 general fund projects of NSFC, and 10 youth science fund projects of NSFC. Focusing on the key basic and clinical problems of pancreatic diseases, the laboratory has successively published important research on international top academic journals such as Nature Cell Biology, Gastroenterology, Nature Communications, Molecular Cancer, Molecular Cell, Microbiome, Cancer Research, etc., with more than 300 academic research papers published and more than 50 master's and doctoral students trained.
Since its establishment, the laboratory has established a good cooperative relationship with many well-known research institutes at home and abroad, such as M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, Yale University, Shanghai Institute of Medicine, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Institute of Oncology, Shanghai Jiaotong College of Life Science and Technology, Guangzhou Medical University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, etc.
