Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM) is located in the center of Huangpu district, Shanghai, China, where the innovative spirit, diverse culture and inclusiveness are long-planted. It was formerly known as Shanghai Second Medical College, which came into being through a merger of St. John’s University School of Medicine (1896-1952), Aurora University School of Medicine (1911-1952), and Tongde Medical College (1918-1952) in the nationwide reorganization of universities in 1952 and changed its name to Shanghai Second Medical University in 1985. In July 2005, Shanghai Second Medical University merged with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to establish a new key medical school, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, under the joint jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Shanghai municipal government. In November 2010, SJTUSM was listed as one of the ten first key institutions co-built by China’s National Health Commission and the MoE.
Supported by the MoE,the National Health Commission and Shanghai Government, SJTUSM gives full play to its institutional advantages, and strives to become a world-class university and medical school. It follows theprinciples of scientific comprehensive university growth, and has developed into a university with a high international reputation and a strong faculty. 2) About the College
The College of Basic Medical Sciences was founded in 1955. Through 60 years of development, the College has become a key platform of teaching, research, talent training and social service. The College’s overall management is led by the dean, and each department director is responsible for their discipline development.Within the College, research institutes are built together with departments to develop a distinctive discipline platform. The College has 7 departments, 4 research centers, 1 national virtual simulation experiment teaching base, 1 key laboratory under the MoE, 1 collaborative innovation center jointly established by the MoE and Shanghai government, 1 Shanghai municipal-level research institute, 2 Shanghai key laboratories,and 1 Shanghai frontier research base. The College boasts a strong faculty. As of December 2022, there are 480 staff members (209 with senior professional titles), including a large number of outstanding experts such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and national high-level talents. Following the inevitable trend of interdisciplinary research and the strategic need of translational medicine and precision medicine, the College strives to create a favorable educational and academic atmosphere for cultivating outstanding medical innovation talents. 2. Job description and requirements
1) Job description
A. The dean is responsible for the overall teaching, research, discipline development, talent cultivation and administration of the College. The dean sets out and implements the strategic plan for the college, promotes the development oftop-class college and disciplines, and accelerates the internationalization of the College. During the term, the dean should significantly improve the teaching and research level of theCollege, the discipline quality and the international influence.
B. The dean is also responsible for developing the College’s talent team. Under the dean’s leadership, there should be a significant increase of high-level experts introduced to and trained by the College, so as to build a faculty team that meets the requirements of a first-class college.
2) Job requirements
A. Good political accomplishment and overall development vision; dedicated, reliable andresponsible; strong team work spirit; mentally and physically healthy;and can work full-time.
B. Good knowledge of the higher education and talent cultivation; an international academic vision, forward-looking academic thoughts and good skills to lead, communicate and coordinate; ability to realize sustainable development of the College and build first-class college and disciplines.
C. An education background on medicine, life science, nursing or majors related to medicine, with outstanding academic achievements in the field. International applicants shall hold an academic title of associate professor or above at aprestigious university, or hold certain positions at international renowned research institutes. Domestic applicants shall holda doctoral degree, senior professional title(s) and the eligibility to supervise doctoral students. Preferred candidates are those with one of the following conditions: 1) academician of CAS or CAE, or national high-level expert; 2)having published original or pacesetting paper(s) on life science and medicine in top or authoritative journals as a corresponding author; 3)having undertaken national major projects on science and technology, national key research and development projects,or NSFC key and major projects, major research plans (with major support),and key international (regional) cooperative research projects, etc.
D. The Regulations on the Selection and Appointmentof Party and Government Staff and the Regulations on the Management of Leaders of Public Service Institutions are also applicable.
