Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM) is a research-oriented and innovative institution with a high international reputation, strong faculty, distinctive strength and outstanding academic achievements. It insists on an overall development that combines medicine, education, research and social service, and ranks top in China by its comprehensive strength. It also takes the lead in many subjects among Chinese medical universities and schools. Currently SJTUSM has 25 sub-schools and departments, and 12 affiliated hospitals that are first-class in China and strongly competitive in the globe.
In response to the Healthy China strategy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine will establish an English journal of comprehensive medical sciences which aims to accelerate the global dissemination of the latest medical science achievements, and increase the academic influence of Chinese science journals in the world. SJTUSM strives to develop it into a high-level medical science journal in a short period, and now recruits a director of the editorial department for this journal.
1. Job description and requirements
1) Job description
A. Under the leadership of the editor-in-chief and the editorial board, the director is responsible for the daily administration and business of the editorial department.
B. Supervision of the establishment and development of the English medical journal.
C. Overall and annual planning of the journal as well as its implementation according to the missions, goals, strategies, policies and the opinions of the editorial board.
D. Contact with world-class medical scientists and inviting editorials, reviews, and high-level research papers.
E. Working together with the staff at the editorial department to complete the editing, publishing, publicity, distribution and other work, and to ensure the quality and social effect of the journal.
F. Review of the final proofread paper, and part of the editing work if necessary.
G. Other tasks assigned by the competent department, editor-in-chief and editorial board.
2) Job requirements
A. Good political accomplishment and passion for editing; dedicated, reliable and responsible; strong ability to organize and coordinate; mentally and physically healthy; and can work full-time.
B.Have a professional background in medicine or life sciences with a doctorate degree; under the age of 50.
C. Have published scientific research papers in the fields of medicine and life sciences or papers related to journal management in key English journals, and can keep up with the frontiers of medicine and life sciences to acquire and collect papers.
D. Proficiency in English, good English writing and speaking skills; be able to review the format of English papers, identify paper fields, and assist the editor-in-chief in handling papers.
E. Familiar with the policies and standards of international and Chinese journal distribution. Experience in establishing and developing SCI journals, or in editing English journals are preferred.
