Who We Are:

Shanghai Jiao Tong University-The University of Edinburgh One Health Center (OHC) is an international educational and scientific institution jointly established by two prestigious universities--Shanghai Jiao Tong University and The University of Edinburgh. From an overall perspective of the interaction between the health of humans, animals and the environment, the OHC focuses on five interface areas of One Health including 16 research fields, such as human-animal, human-environment, animal-environment, and human-animal-environment interconnections, as well as the governance system to support these interfaces. Aiming to be an international top-level platform, the OHC strives to achieve innovative, leading, and transformable achievements on One Health research and governance paradigms, so as to improve China's governance capabilities on public health and empower the building of a community of common health for mankind.

Mission: To improve health and well-being of human and promote the building of a health community of shared future for mankind.

Vision: To be a leading team to pilot the high-level development of "Global Health" and “One Health”.

Value: 1) Harmonious coexistence: coordinate human health, animal health and environment health, and promote the harmonious coexistence of human and natural life community. 2) Sharing cooperation: facilitate information sharing and cooperation, spread the concept of One Health, and promote the development of One Health. 3) Innovative development: continuously lead the innovation and development of the research, education and application of One Health. 4)Taking responsibility with the original mission: actively participate in global health governance and promote the development of health care of China and even the world with the concept of One Health.

The OHC will commit to:

Ø Setting up an interdisciplinary and cross-regional research platform to develop a One-Health discipline system by starting in the fields of zoonosis, food safety and control of drug resistance, etc.;

Ø Integrating the One-Health academic resources of top universities at international level, exploring the training mode of One-Health talents in China, establishing a leading One-Health education system, and training high-level interdisciplinary One-Health professionals;

Ø Gathering global wisdom, building a top think tank, focusing on “blind spots” and "difficult points" of One Health, providing forward-looking solutions, and promoting the transformation of public health governance policies;

Ø Creating an international platform for academic exchanges and cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road Initiative and other countries around the world to enhance China's international impacts on One Health through in-depth cooperation with World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, World Organization for Animal Health and other international organizations;

Ø Establishing and training bases on Hainan and Chongming islands to serve as "experimental fields" for implementational research on One Health in order to promote the cooperation on technology development, teaching and research related to One Health and the transformation of achievements.
