Research Interest: Infectious Disease Epidemiology; Environmental Health Epidemiology; Global Health; One Health
Dr Lefei Han has joined the School of Global Health (SGH) at SHUMU in 2021. She completed her Bachelor degree in Preventive Medicine at Sichuan University in 2015; Master of Public Health in Infectious Disease at the University of Hong Kong in 2016 and Ph.D in infectious disease epidemiology at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2021. She was a visiting scholar at the Columbia University in 2019.
Dr Han’s research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, environmental health epidemiology, global health, and One Health. As a member of Core Facilities and Data Science Center for One Health at SGH, she works on integrating health information through global publicly available data to evaluate health status and its determinants around the world. The main focuses of her current research include 1) investigating the disease dynamics of COVID-19 and influenza under varying non-pharmaceutical interventions, environmental conditions, mutated virus strains, etc.; 2) investigating the direct and indirect impact of COVID-19 on other causes of death (i.e., cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, renal failure, mental health, etc.) and the disparities by varied demographics; and 3) developing a tool to evaluate the One Health performance and identifying the gaps of One Health capacity building around the world. Specifically, she mainly focuses on the field of food security, which is one of the sub-fields of One Health. She also responds to develop and optimize the statistical model of this assessment tool. Her previous research primarily focused on: 1) transmission, seasonality, epidemiology, and clinical outcomes of respiratory infectious diseases; 2) evaluating the impacts of ambient and household environmental exposure on communicable/non-communicable diseases; 3) using wearable devices (GPS) to measure daily activity patterns and evaluating the related health impacts; 4) estimating the disease burden, prevalence, and trend of non-communicable diseases.
Dr Han had 37 research publications as of May 2023 with H index 14, and total citations over 1000. She received Young Scientist Award from the European Scientific Working group on Influenza (ESWI) Seventh Conference in 2020, Yangfan Programme from Shanghai Science and Technology Development Fund in 2023. She is the course coordinator of Global Health and One Health for bachelor's students, Principle of One Health for master's students, and the course developer of Data Science and Application for master's students. In addition, Dr Han serves as an academic reviewer of scientific manuscripts for more than 10 journals, including BMC Infectious Disease; BMC Public Health; Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism; Frontiers in Medicine; Frontiers in Public Health and Scientific Report, etc.
