To speed up the development ofaworld-class medical school and disciplines with Chinese characteristics, focus on cutting-edge“new developments” and secure“big health” for all the people, expand and enhance the academic perspectives of all teachers and students, and build a high-level communication and cooperation platform,SJTUSM held the fourth event of Master Forum Series, themed “Leading Development & Envisioning the Future” on November 5 at the lecture hall in Yide Building. HAO Xishan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, HOU Fanfan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, WANG Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Peking University People’s Hospital, and ZHANG Xue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and party secretary of Harbin Medical University, delivered their keynote speeches, sharing with teachers and studentsthecutting-edge technologies and advanced methodologies, imparting the latest ideas about medical discipline construction in the new era, and looking into the trends of medical development.
FAN Xianqun,Chancellor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a welcome speech, expressing heartfelt thanks for the arrival of the four academicians.“What makes a good university is the amount and quality of masters it owns, instead of the amount and quality of buildings that stand.” Masters are the foundation and pillar of a university.The Master Forum Series is designed to enhance high-standard, high-quality, high-level academic exchanges, gather academic essence, create a stronger academic atmosphere, and allow all teachers and students to meet masters on a regular basis. Academician HOU Fanfan gave a keynote speech titled“The Role of Big Data in the Clinical Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Diseases”. She introduced the burden and prevalence of kidney diseases in China, pioneered a new diagnostic standard for acute kidney injury in children through big data research, and emphasized the importance of real-world research evidence in optimizing prevention and treatment strategies and achieving early risk prediction of kidney diseases.
Academician WANG Jun gave a keynote speech titled“Exploration of Intelligent Assistance Module for Lung Cancer Surgery”. He reviewed the development history, main challenges, and cutting-edge technologies of lung cancer surgery, and emphasized the establishment of an intelligent assistance system for lung cancer surgery in cooperation with experts in artificial intelligence, which can be used to greatly reduce the technical difficulties of clinical doctors performing thoracoscopic surgery and thus bring huge benefits to patients.
Academician ZHANG Xue gave a keynote speech titled“Telling the Story of Genes, and Sharing Research Experience”. He shared and summarized his years of growth experience on the path of scientific research by citing multiple rare disease research cases, and proposed the principles of“being able to sit still, stay focused, get along well, develop quickly, and stand firm”. He hoped that medical students would always carry critical and innovative thinking to do cutting-edge research.
Academician HAO Xishan gave a keynote speech titled“Revitalizing Immunity and Eradicating Cancer”. He provided a detailed introduction to the development of tumor treatment models and immunotherapy, as well as the clinical application of biological therapy for solid tumors. From the perspective of precision therapy, he also introduced the development trends and technological developments in tumor prevention and treatment in the new era, further expanding the international perspective and forward-looking thinking of the teachers and students.
After their speeches, the four academicians engaged in active interactions and communications with teachers and students present, and answered the questions that they raised, all in a lively atmosphere on site.
